Sandy Island

Our first day on the island of Carriacou started with an hour and 45-minute boat ride from Grenada, passing island after island.

Upon arriving, we were picked up by the tour company and a gentleman named Mojo. He took us on a tour of the natural mangroves, which is also a protected oyster bed. We saw a tree boa, iguanas and held jellyfish in our hands.

Then we went on to Sandy Island for snorkeling. This is a long, thin, gorgeous white sandy beach island. We not only snorkeled but were served a fabulous lunch and walked along the shore. It was an incredibly relaxing day.

After the tour, the owner Allison was getting flooded with dinner requests (33 in total) from the sailboats anchored right off Sandy Island.  She was not prepared to serve that many on the island and had to boat across to town for provisions… so we helped her run around to stores and homes getting a barbeque, rum, glasses, food, ice, chairs, tables, etc. It was great fun. And the kids got to ride in the back of her pickup truck and see the town from a totally non-touristy perspective.

We ended the day by getting a dinner of jerk chicken and going back to our hotel to eat by the pool.
