Lake Hallstatt Walk & Dinner

After a full day of getting to Lake Hallstatt, Austria from Vienna in an early morning train, getting settled into our apartment, touring the Five Fingers mountain lookout and Ice Caves from a Gondola ride, we wandered into Hallstatt to see the town and have some dinner by the lake.

For dinner, most of us had the Austrian specialty of Wiener schnitzel. The view was gorgeous as we sat at a restaurant that was right on the lake.

More Info on Wiener schnitzel:

Wiener schnitzel, sometimes spelled Wienerschnitzel, as in Switzerland, is a type of schnitzel made of a thin, breaded, pan-fried veal cutlet. It is one of the best-known specialties of Viennese cuisine, and one of the national dishes of Austria.

More Info Hallstatt:

Hallstatt is a small town in the district of Gmunden, in the Austrian state of Upper Austria. Situated between the southwestern shore of Hallstätter See and the steep slopes of the Dachstein massif (a strongly karstic Austrian mountain, and the second-highest mountain in the Northern Limestone Alps), the town lies in Salzkammergut region, on the national road linking Salzburg and Graz.

Hallstatt is known for its production of salt, dating back to prehistoric times, and gave its name to the Hallstatt culture, the archaeological culture linked to Proto-Celtic and early Celtic people of the Early Iron Age in Europe, c.800–450 BC.

Hallstatt is at the core of the “Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut Cultural Landscape” declared as one of the World Heritage Sites in Austria by UNESCO in 1997.
